In 1778, a young French officer named Lafayette frequently joined his comrades at the Inn for refreshment and company. Centuries passed, until the mid 1990s when the Inn closed its doors for extensive restoration. A microbrewery was added, as well as a venue for local musicians to perform eclectic music in the tavern seven nights a week, and a bed a breakfast.
Despite these upgrades, the General Lafayette Inn remains solidly Colonial in appeal and appearance, and continues to offer one of the most elegant upscale dining atmospheres to be found in the Philadelphia region.
