In September of 2000, Valanni introduced ‘Medi-Latin’ cuisine to Philadelphia. Cuisine? That’s a fancy word for food. Don’t be afraid of it. Just luxuriate in the concept of taking the best of the Mediterranean and Latin cultures and splashing it all over a single menu.
I’m hooked. All those exotic tastes in one place? They offer classics like paella, or try a signature specialty like maple walnut crusted duck breast with celery root puree…or maybe your sweet tooth runs to caramelized rum bananas.
Conveniently located right off the ‘avenue of arts’, Valanni is THE place to stop on your way to the theater, or for a night-cap afterwards. The bar at Valanni has a tough act to follow keeping up with the creative food menu but they do great work, shaking up over 25 house specialty ‘V’ cocktails.
Speaking of drinks, you’ll never leave Valanni’s Happy Hour thirsty. Drop in Monday through Friday 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for the specials - $4 premium drinks, $3 lager, and ½ price bar tapas.
Mmm…$4 cocktails. That makes me want to go out and put in a hard day’s work just so I can drop by Valanni’s later to unwind.
But let’s not neglect the beer and wine. Here’s a list of beers they carry, both draft and by the bottle. Wine by the glass and sangrias are also on the menu. Quite impressive. Quite impressive. Come to think of it, I might put in another hard day’s work so I can drop by Happy hour a second time. They don’t care. Come to Happy Hour even if you haven’t put in a hard day’s work.
Visit Valanni online or call 215.790.9494 for more information or to say in a quiet, authoritative voice, “I’ll take mine shaken, not stirred.”
Valanni is located at 1229 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA.
