It’s all one grand experiment when you’re living randomly: Tantrum Tonic

The Random Tea Room.

There’s something about that name that makes me think of Douglas Adams, bless his mirthful (and now entirely deceased) heart, especially his book The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul. Try it. You might like it. It has many seeming random occurrences, though I’m sure some great master comic plan lay at the heart of it all.

Here’s an even better idea. Buy the book and take it with you to The Random Tea Room on the third Friday of any month. This time around would make December 19th the day you need to mark on your calendar. Tip toe into the world of international teas when you order up any of their roughly 40 artisinal teas and house-blended herbal infusions. No, a herbal infusion does NOT involve a non-medically delivered enema. I don’t know where you get those crazy ideas.

An herbal infusion is a good thing.

So there you be, herbal tea steeping to perfection in front of you, book open in your hands and you begin to suspect someone is performing sonic experiments in your head without permission. Maybe they are. Maybe they aren’t. What do you care? It’s just a brain. How important is that in day-to-day life anyway? Not very, I humbly submit.

What you’re hearing is the electronic music of Tantrum Tonic delivered by John Shenk and friends. They like to tinker with abstract minimal DJ mix. What’s that? I obviously cannot explain it to you here – it’s abstract.

Learn more about The Random Tea Room here, located at 714 North 4th Street. It’s so nice to get to add to my list of random things to do in Philadelphia.
