All you need to achieve a near-nirvanic state of existence is a spoon and five dollars. Actually, just bring the money and they’ll give you a spoon. How and where will you manage this unearthly feat?
At the 10th Annual Super Scooper All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival of course.
I know, it’s so crazy you want to slap yourself. All the ice cream you can eat for five bucks. What’s the catch? There’s no catch.
No, really. What’s the catch? I know, it’s out-of-date ice cream found in the dumpster behind some convenience store and re-frozen for this event. We’re talking primo product here, boys and girls. We’re talking companies you’ve maybe heard of and certainly lusted after a time or twelve. 20 different ice cream and water ice companies are representin’. How about Haagen-Daz, Ben & Jerry’s, Edy’s, Breyers/Good Humor, Bassett’s, Turkey Hill, Jack & Jill, and Philadelphia Water Ice are just a few of the slam bang choices.
Unless you’re a martian, you’re probably going to find something good in there.
And you’ll be stuffing yourself silly for a good cause. Over the past nine years, The Joshua Kahan Fund’s “all-you-can-eat” ice cream events have raised nearly $600,000 to help find a cure for pediatric leukemia. That’s good work, people. Let’s help them keep it up.
The Super Scooper event will be held for three days, Friday, July, 4th, Saturday, July 5th, and Sunday, July 6th, 2008, on the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. Hours are noon to 6 pm all three days, with extended hours on Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Like I said already and you probably didn’t believe me, admission is only five dollars per person.
Who is Joshua Kahan anyway? The fund bearing his name was established by his parents, Jeffrey and Michele Kahan to raise awareness for pediatric leukemia research and improve the quality of life for pediatric cancer patients and their families. Joshua was a two-year-old boy who loved ice cream, fire trucks, and his family. He died from AML Leukemia in 1997, just shy of his third birthday. All net proceeds from this event benefit the Joshua Kahan fund and the Children’s Hospital Oncology Division.
