Prizes you might actually want: Signature Chef’s Auction

Sometimes a free giveaway is worth about what you pay for it. Not so with the 12th Annual Signature Chef’s Auction of Philadelphia Friday, November 7, 2008, at Harrah’s Chester Casino. This is one of those things to do in Philadelphia that’s a lot of fun and for a great cause also. In this case, proceeds raised go to support the March of Dimes mission to give every baby a healthy start in life.

Even Ebenezer Scrooge might have a hard time bah-humbugging that. Have you ever stopped to consider what a really cool name that is? Ebenezer Scrooge…it’s majestic in its bitterness. You don’t run into many people named Ebenezer any more, and I’d like to change that. Come on, who’s with me? Will anyone promise to name their next born male child Ebenezer? No takers? Cowards.

But let’s get back to the great giveaways that will going on in the live auction at the end of the night with the event at hand. These are not crappy prizes. How about unique dining experiences, diamond jewelry, a vacation house in the Hamptons, a trip to Australia, and much more.

Which chefs will be serving up fabulous cuisine at the Signature Chef’s Auction? I just happen to have a list here in my pocket and it goes like this:

Jennifer Carol – 10 Arts by Eric Ripert
Bruce Giardino – Continental Midtown
Walter Staib – City Tavern
Rosario Romano – Ristorante Panorama
Starr restaurant chefs from El Vez and Tangerine
John Taxin – Old Original Bookbinders
John Anderson – Solaris
David D. White & Thomas Frain – Campbell’s Soup
…and many others.

Harrah’s Chester Casino is located at 777 Harrah’s Blvd., Chester, PA 19103. The silent auction and tasting gets underway at 7 PM, with the program and live auction beginning at 9 PM. Need more information on this event? Go here.
