We’re going to talk about a futuristic Asian restaurant called Pod, so go ahead and get all those Invasion of the Body Snatchers jokes out of your system right now. I’ll wait. Which is your favorite anyway - the original from 1958 or the re-make with Leonard Nimoy in 1978?
Let’s quit meandering around in irrelevant land and get to the point. After all, I don’t get paid to talk about movies when I’m supposed to be reviewing restaurants.
Speaking of restaurants, have you read The Restaurant at the End of the Universe? By the way, don’t even bother with ever seeing a movie or television adaptation of anything Douglas Adams writes. It is simply scientifically impossible to duplicate his delicious wit and falling off the wall humor. Read a Douglas Adams book. Put that in your Bucket List and smoke it.
Holy crap, I’ve got to focus here.
Stephen Starr, Philadelphia’s leading creator of trend-setting restaurants has struck again with Pod, located at 3636 Sansom Street in University City. Come for the Asian-fusion cuisine, prepared by Executive Chef Michael Schulson in super-chic, all-white surroundings.
Ogle the conveyor belt sushi bar, the unusual dining pods, foam sculptures, and the latest video imagery.
The ultra-modern design incorporates unusual materials such as molded rubber, sculpted plastic, and smooth finished resin. The walls are high-gloss epoxy. The floors are a creamy white concrete. Try to refrain from licking. All this white is contrasted by bold, bright lighting. The glass window outside lures you in with six screens playing fast-paced Asian videos (Pod-casting? Ah ha ha ha ha!).
It’s all really too mind-bending to adequately describe with my feeble talents. Go forth and step forward into the future of eating. Computer named Hal not included.
Pod’s website has one of the coolest cyber gadgets I’ve seen in a while. Play with the cocktail generator to find a remedy for what ails you. On my first spin I was prescribed something called Orange – peach vodka, orange liqueur, plus orange and cranberry.
Nice. I’ll drink to that.
For more information, call Pod at 215.387.1803.
Come by and see me if I’m there. If I’m not then you won’t see me because I’m not there. Unless I’m there then you might see me – if we’re in the same pod. I’ll be the one eating lobster stir fry and pumpkin pie Napoleon.
