This week in Philadelphia area music we look forward to the 78th iteration of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Who can blame ‘em? They can still play and we’ve still got money to give them. Sounds like a match made in heaven. And just how many bands can come up with a name that relates to food? I know of at least six and they’re all playing for your entertainment pleasure! Get out there – and don’t ask Kevin to play Footloose. That’s so tired.
Crosby and Nash (Keswick Theatre, 10/8/2008 @ 7:30 PM)
Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, have dwindled to only Crosby and Nash for this tour. That stands for David Crosby and Graham Nash for you young whippersnappers out there. Just remember this, these old dudes are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, so you’ve got to give them props for that. Never been a big fan but their legendary airtight and crystal clear vocal harmonies show they’ve still got it. Check out the website for more info. Plus, they’re at the Keswick and everything sounds good there.
Imani Winds (Kimmel Center, 10/24/2008 @ 7:30 PM)
Imani Winds has proven itself to be more than a wind quintet – more like a force of nature. For 11 years this Grammy nominated ensemble has taken their unique vision out into the world, carving a distinct presence in the classical music world with dynamic playing, genre-blurring collaborations, and inspirational outreach programs that bridge European, American, African, and Latin American music traditions. Whew! Here’s their website. Go see ‘em if you get a chance.
Do you notice anything about the smaller venue list of artists below? I’ll give you a moment. Think real hard. It should be obvious. Food?! What the hell are you talking about? No! The last one on the list is a brother duo containing Kevin Bacon. Yep, THAT Kevin Bacon. The music is pretty damn good too. Food? I’m looking and I really don’t see how you arrived at that particular conclusion.
Hot Chip (Trocadero, 10/5/2008)
