These new kids are old: Music Wrap Up

Somebody call the 1980’s! New Kids On The Block are on tour. It’s okay. As far as I can tell, this is NOT one of the signs of the apocalypse. They either got bored sitting around counting their cash or they spent all their cash and need to make more. Either way, NKOTB fans put down the Prozac and rejoice! The other big act on our radar this week in Philadelphia is Usher.

Usher (Electric Factory, 11/5/2008, 8:30 PM)
Yes, that actually IS his real first name. Five Grammy Awards and 35 million units sold worldwide (give or take a few) tell you all you need to know about this R & B / pop superstar. For those interested in minutia, Usher is also part owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers professional basketball team. Click here to learn more about his tour.

New Kids on the Block (Wachovia Center, 11/5/2008, 8 PM)
If you were a shrieking NKOTB fan about 20 years ago then I’d say your wildest dreams have indeed come true. The old New Kids – or is it the new New Kids – are back with the original lineup and, according to this review in the Los Angeles Times, ain’t half bad. Catch them at the Wachovia but please keep your underwear on.

The Toadies? THOSE Toadies. The very same ones who rocketed to recognition in the 1990’s on the strength of a platinum album called rubberneck and then disappeared. Their baack! I’m also kind of liking the name Girlyman, so why not see them as well? Heck, see ‘em all. I don’t care. It’s your life.

Zozobra (North Star Bar, 11/4/2008)

Girlyman (World Cafe Live, 11/6/2008)

Shackamaxon (Tin Angel, 11/2/20080

The Toadies (The Trocadero, 11/5/20080

The Gutter Twins (Theater of Living Arts, 11/5/2008)

Larkin Grimm (First Unitarian Church, 11/6/2008)

Stay safe and watch for falling coconuts.
