Commercial breaks be damned: Megawords Storefront Project and Exhibition

Are you ready to walk into your favorite magazine? Megawords magazine is here to help you do just that when they leap off the printed page and land smackdab between the walls of a storefront exhibition the whole month of September. For thirty days the Megawords Storefront Project and Exhibition will come to life with a cavalcade of permanent and rotating installations, guest speakers, musical performances, workshops, and film screenings.

During this period of hyper-active creativity, magazine founders Anthony Smyrski and Daniel Murphy will release two special-edition printed issues of Megawords drawing direct inspiration from the storefront space, artists, and audience.

How ‘bout ‘dem apples?

Megawords is a non-commercial record of life in Philadelphia. Since the beginning, the magazine has published eight advertisement-free issues, broadcast a weekly internet radio show, and organized many events and performances. The storefront project and exhibition is a unique way to extend the Megawords mission beyond the traditional role of art magazines and radio.

Yep, these guys seem to have a real bug up their ass when it comes to the role of advertising in our culture. They have this strange obsession with unencumbered freedom of expression and whatnot. All I can say is “Bravo, boys! Keep on fighting the good fight!” Smyrski and Murphy have worked their fingers to the bone to assemble this international group of visual artists, speakers, and performers for the project.
