When creative people sit down to talk shop, you can bet something wild is going to happen. So it was in 2003 when a group of friends began discussing how they’d like to do something fun to promote art in Lansdowne and the Philadelphia region. When word got out, local musicians asked to participate and soon, with a theatre in town, it became apparent that a spoken word element should be added as well.
This little get together to do ‘something fun’ grew into an annual weekend long extravaganza called the Lansdowne Arts Festival. This year it will be Saturday and Sunday, September 13 & 14, 2008. The neat thing about this festival is all the participants either live in Lansdowne or have a historical connection to the area.
That’s called keeping it local, folks.
But anyone living on the planet is invited to attend. In fact, the locals really, really, really hope a bunch of you show up because you’re going to have a great time. Artists, musicians, and festival-goers will mingle for two days of art, live music, theatre, spoken word, and children’s events. Admission is FREE and open to the public. The festival has grown to include more than 35 artists, a silent auction, and live music with solo and group acts from a variety of genres like rock, pop, folk, blues, swing, and selections just for the kids.
If you’d like to read more about the Lansdowne Arts Festival, check out their website here. It all takes place at the Twentieth Century Club, 84 South Lansdowne Avenue, Lansdowne, PA. Saturday events begin at 10:00 am, while it’s starts a bit later on Sunday, noon, presumably to allow for proper recovery time.
