Sometimes it’s good to be a maniac: Joseph Poon

That manic little Asian Master Chef, Joseph Poon, is at it again. This time he’s bringing his act to Foster’s Homeware with a cooking demonstration on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 2 PM. You might recognize Joseph as the unofficial mayor of Chinatown or maybe you’ve already eaten at his new restaurant on 108 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia.

Dude can cook and now you get to watch this high energy pan slinger create some of his signature Asian fusion cuisine dishes in living color. Poon creates dishes with a simple elegance AND a dash of adventure. From his contemporary but quirky venue in Philadelphia’s Chinatown, he hosts private events, Wok ‘N Walk tours of the local restaurant scene, teaches cooking classes and even leads trips to China.

Whew. Makes me tired just thinking about it. Almost forgot – don’t miss his autobiographical cookbook Life is Short…Cooking is Fun. His warmth, exuberance and style have earned him appearances on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, “The Ellen Degeneres Show”, and TV Food Network’s “The Best of…”, as well as a half page profile in the New York Times. His three decade rise from impoverished immigrant to national culinary fame is a real life American success story. Hmm…almost sounds like this could be a movie. Hollywood, are you listening?

And he even carves watermelons into works of art! Is there anything this man doesn’t do? His new restaurant is called Joe’s Peking Duck. Catch his cooking demonstration at Foster’s Homeware, located at 399 Market Street in Philadelphia.
