Everybody knows it’s fine to eat crayons: Gingerbread House Workshop

While they were famous for worthy endeavors like spreading their religion by force, the Crusaders ALSO brought gingerbread to Europe. Around this time of year, more and more thoughts turn to gingerbread, the ubiquitous holiday treat. Look! It’s a man! It’s a house! It’s good to eat. If you’re in the Philadelphia area and tired of eating crayons, I’ve got something even better.

You know you want to learn how to make it the right way. I can feel it in the slight increase in pressure on your computer mouse the moment you began reading this entry. Maybe spending painstaking hours on elephantine gingerbread creations is for sissies but no one has to know.

You need to find yourself a good Groucho Marx disguise and get yourself to one of the Gingerbread House Workshops at the Crayola Factory where you’ll learn to build a gingerbread house that lasts all the way through the holidays. We can guarantee that because a small amount of rat poison is introduced to the mix during the process – just enough to guarantee a really good belly ache to the lad or lass who dares sneak a bite.

Okay, that last part? Not true. It’s called creative license and is issued to bloggers like yours truly. Thankfully there is no governing body except common sense and good taste and I’ve got PLENTY of that.

Workshops run from 1PM to 3 PM and there’s a limit of 30 per class. Next one comes around Sunday, December 14, 2008, at the Crayola Factory. Call 610-515-8000 to reserve your spot. Cost is $12 per house. Visit the Crayola Factory website to learn more. The workshops are conducted on site at 18 Centre Square, Easton, PA.
