Stella, I’m home! A Streetcar Named Desire

Before Marlon Brando gave the performance of a lifetime on the silver screen, before the story had even hit Broadway, a hot young writer by the name of Tennessee Williams brought his new play to the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia in 1947. Maybe you’ve heard of it – A Streetcar Named Desire.

True story. The legendary tale of Stanley and Blanche got it’s start right here in Philly. Now the circle is complete and Streetcar returns to it’s birthplace with all the erotic drama and passion you’ve come to expect.

What better way to celebrate the 200th season of American’s Theatre than by catching this production of a true American masterpiece in a setting as legendary as the story itself. No, it ain’t Brando but he’s fat and old and dead now anyway and I’m sure the new Stanley will do just fine if you give him a chance.

The Walnut Street Theatre is located at 825 Walnut Street in Philadelphia. You can find out more about the production schedule here. Streetcar runs through March 1 and remember, before there were action flicks and big budget fiascos from Hollywood, it all began with actors on a stage telling a story.
