Description: In this major retrospective, artist and author Maurice Sendak uses his own words to tell the story of how his work evolved from “wild things” and “night kitchens” to opera stage designs and illustrating Herman Melville. The exhibit features a total of over 130 objects, including original artwork, rare sketches, never-before-seen working materials, and interview footage. A family-friendly gallery guide, available to help parents guide children through the exhibition, offers fun facts and stories, questions designed to stimulate conversation, and help navigating some of the more complex themes that Sendak’s work brings out.
