Description: At the turn of the last century, expressionism emerged to change the face of Western Theater forever. Join EgoPo and eight other Philadelphia theater companies as they explore the evolution of expressionism throughout the last century. Companies include The Lantern Theater, Flashpoint Theater, Azuka Theatre and Walter Bilderback of The Wilma Theater. The Jacob Burns Reading Series takes place one Monday each month throughout the 2008-2009 season.
Kicking off the reading series, the symposium Expressionism in Contemporary Theater is moderated by Bilderback and features a panel of leading artists and academics. The evening promises to give the audience a deeper way to connect with this season, elucidating the debate between realism and expressionism as the essential theatrical language for today.
