Philadelphia magazine is ready to throw open the doors to its seventh annual Design Home for tours. This time around, proceeds go to benefit the Ronald McDonald House, a charity organization even the scroogiest among us would have a hard time disclaiming. How can you help out? Plan a visit between September 4th and October 5th, 2008. The Design Home is open for tours Thursdays from noon to 8 PM, and Friday through Monday 11 AM to 4 PM. Tickets are only $20.
Let’s take a look at this year’s house, a European style country estate built by Guidi Builders in Lower Gwynedd, which features top of the line appliances, a two-story family room, dual courtyards, and an outdoor summer kitchen.
Click here to begin drooling immediately or wait a while and come back later when you’re wearing a bib. This best-in-class showcase of architecture and design sprawls over 8,000 feet and three levels.
When you take a tour of this amazing house, you might sleep better at night knowing you did a good thing. The Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families of children with life-threatening illnesses receiving care at local Philadelphia hospitals. The very first Ronald McDonald House was built in Philadelphia in 1974 after Philadelphia Eagles player Fred Hill and his wife spent many uncomfortable nights sleeping in the hospital during their daughter’s treatment for leukemia.
They knew there had to be a better way.
Eagles General Manager stepped in to partner with McDonalds for the first fundraiser and soon the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was presented with the money to build a seven bedroom house on Spruce Street. Admission to stay in the house is based solely on need and never costs any family more than $15 per night.
Get your ticket information here. Complimentary shuttle service will pick you up at Gwynedd Mercy College and return you at the end of the tour. Click here for directions.
Remember, helping kids is a nice thing to do.
