What is it with this unhealthy compulsion to close down bridges and let thousands of people run across them? Down in the Keys it’s Seven Mile Bridge. Here in Philadelphia it’s the Ben Franklin Bridge (BFB). What’s that in my earpiece? It’s for a good cause? Oh. Sorry. Make that a HEALTHY compulsion. The important part to remember is that on Sunday, November 2, 2008, the historic BFB closes to auto traffic to allow runners and walkers to participate in the Cooper AmeriHealth Bridge Challenge. Pick your poison – you wanna join the 10K run or the 2 mile walk?
Both are to benefit the children with special needs of Larc School. Interested persons should meet at Campbell’s Field in Camden, NJ at 8:30 AM ready to motivate. By the way, this is the day AFTER daylight savings time takes place, so remember to roll your clocks back one hour or you’ll be there real early.
There have been several items added for the 2008 version of this popular fundraiser:
1. Kids event
2. Additional water stop on the bridge (always good news)
3. Moorestown pickup location
4. Finishers’ medals
5. 5 year age categories
6. More…
Campbell’s Field is located at 401 North Delaware Avenue, Camden, NJ. More information about the run and walk can be found by clicking here. The Ben Franklin Bridge is a 533 meter suspension bridge that leads from Camden to Philadelphia, crossing the Delaware River in the process.
One crucial piece of advice to everyone thinking about participating: Don’t fall in the river during the race. No telling what’s down there.
