For those about to watch (The Big Bang Film Festival - BBFF) we salute you. It takes a truly obsessed…er…devoted set of mind (s) to pull off an event like this. No ordinary stick-in-the-mud, tepid film festival like Cannes or Sundance. This one kicks butt. Literally.
If you’re a fan of exciting and inventive action, adventure, suspense, and Asian action films, put on your big boy pants, grab a sleeping bag and convenience store uppers and get ready for the upcoming slate of films for this year’s festival scheduled October 1-5, 2008. Venues are BSM and The Rotunda. Tell you how to get there in a bit.
BBFF also welcomes documentaries provided it contains extreme sports, athletic events, or competitions. In the past these have actually provided some of the most electric screen moments ever. So…grandmother’s quilting demonstration is out no matter how breathless it may leave you and the fam. Here’s a caveat; if granny’s really got game and creates moments of exhilarating danger, they might think about it.
The BBFF is dedicated to quality and variety. Expect to find independents, features, documentaries, and foreign films rubbing shoulders with shorts and animation. You may not realize it but Philadelphia, with it’s scenic rural and suburban environments, as well as unsurpassed history, has played home to many films over the years such as The Sixth Sense, Philadelphia, Rocky (and the 78 sequels), The Lady In The Water, and The Woodsman. The BFF fits right in with this filmmaking city.
You know when it is. Here’s where. Some films will be screened at BSM on 315 South Broad Street, and others at The Rotunda on 4012 Walnut Street, both in Philadelphia. For screening schedules, check out the BFF website.
I like the ones where they kick really high.
