Who among us doesn’t like a good crepe or two? From the Northwest region France, in an area called Brittany, they come rolling down the streets of Philadelphia to land squarely on your plate at Beau Monde.
You should go there quickly.
What is a crepe? You don’t know, you poor wretched soul? Let me see if I can help. There are two kinds of crepes, ble noire, which uses buckwheat flour to create savory crepes and froment, which is wheat flour used for sweet crepes. Maybe you’re familiar with the sweet variety but there is oh so much more to be eaten.
At Beau Monde, crepes are cooked on imported iron griddles, filled with your choice of tasty ingredients like chicken, sausage, smoked salmon or trout and folded into squares. Don’t you get it? It’s like a fancy sandwich!
As a unique standout among Philadelphia restaurants, Beau Monde suggests you take a look at their menu to truly appreciate the vast selection of fillings they can cram into those delectable French wrappings.
Then it’s time for the sweet toothed. Have your crepe stuffed with fruit, chocolate, ice cream, coconut (not a whole one – they’ll take the shell off), vanilla custard sauce, fresh squeezed lemon and sugar, and more than I have time to mention here. Once again, consult the menu at the link above.
If you’re screaming and crying and gnashing your teeth, devastated that you STILL don’t understand what a crepe is…Wikipedia to the rescue! See a picture and read more about crepes than any single human being should know.
Happy now? Beau Monde is special. Go there so you can be special too. Located at the Northwest Corner of 6th and Bainbridge Streets, Philadelphia, PA. Call them at 215.592.0656 if you must and scream, “The French are coming! The French are coming!”
For a more authentic effect, tilt your black beret to a jaunty angle and remember to raise your pinkie finger while sipping your drink.
That’s all for now.
