Do you lay awake wondering how Sumo wrestlers get and stay so fat? Here’s a bonus nugget of crucial information you might want to incorporate into your day-to-day life: Take a four hour nap after eating!
Geez, it’s so simple. Why didn’t I think of that? A daily four hour nap would likely cure every mental and physical thing that was ailing you. But why am I standing here with Sumo on the brain? Well, I’ll tell you – I’ve just been introduced to a spectacular new Japanese dining experience.
The restaurant is called 1225 Raw Sushi & Sake Lounge, or simply 1225 Raw for those of us too cool for complete names.
If you’re at all interested in fine Japanese dining, don’t stop to ponder the average weight of a Sumo wrestler. Just go already.
Following an intense two years of re-building history, the 1225 Raw Sushi & Sake Lounge finally opened its doors to the public last November from its location at 1225 Sansom Street (ah ha, it’s all starting to make sense now) in Philadelphia’s renowned Stetson Building.
You want quality and ambience? They’ve got it. The soft glow of Japanese lamps caresses hardwood floors and suede couches in a comfortable twilight. Get your sake on in front of the fifteen foot glass bar housing an exotic array of tastes for newbies and connoisseurs alike.
1225 Raw offers a full traditional sushi bar as well as Asian cuisine presented with new American techniques.
Have you ever eaten Japanese? Are you just a little afraid? Don’t be. I’m gonna place a bet right now that if you go once, you’ll be back. Forget the raw fish horror stories that you’ve conjured up in your head. It’s not like that at all. I have a little something that might help you out. Go to their website and savor the foodelicious images and menu. I challenge you to not find at least one mouth-watering selection. Go on. Try it. I’ll wait.
Found something, didn’t you? For me it was the tempura rock shrimp served with three dipping sauces! Three? I should be embarrassed at so much gustatory bounty. Next time I’m thinking the shrimp and lobster spring roll.
Tap into the trademark fare and relaxed vibe for lunch Monday to Friday from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm. Dinner is 5 pm – whenever, depending on the day of the week. See the website for specifics.
And please, never tease a Sumo wrestler.

Enjoyable reading. Ironically enough, I’ve been looking for just such a place to try with my girlfriend. Imagine me, penciling-in this Friday so I can try this stuff for the first time because all she does is rave about it.
This place sounds like a winner. Also, thanks for the laughs. I promise not to tease the Sumo.
